List Preview

With all of the Internet hubbub about units in IA: Apocalypse 2nd Edition being approved for use in normal games of 40k, I thought I'd draw up a couple lists for testing out some of these new units. With Codex: Space Marines starting to feel a little bit behind the curve as far as it's rules and equipment, I thought it would be interesting to see how all of the new units spice up the game. So, over the next day or so, I'll be putting up a couple new lists that focus on the specific elements of the new Space Marine units that seem interesting. So, let's have a look.

2000 Pts - Codex: Space Marines Roster - Imperial Armor Apocalypse 2nd Ed. 2000 Drop

Elite: Terminator Assault Squad
8 Terminator Assault Squad 5x Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield, 4x Lighting Claws

1 Ironclad Dreadnought, Hunter-Killer Missiles x2, Ironclad Assault Launchers
1 Lucius Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pod (IA)

      1 Sergeant, Combi-Meltagun, Power Fist
      1 Drop Pod
Troops: Tactical Squad
   9 Tactical Squad, Flamer, Multi-melta
      1 Sergeant, Combi-Meltagun, Power Fist
      1 Drop Pod
Fast Attack: Caestus Assault Ram (IA)
1 Caestus Assault Ram (IA), Frag Assault Launchers
Heavy Support: Devastator Squad
4 Devastator Squad, Missile Launcher x3, Plasma Cannon x1
      1 Sergeant Bolt Pistol, Chainsword
      1 Drop Pod

For this list, I've decided to put the Lucius Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pod and the Caestus Assault Ram to the test. The Ironclads drop in via the pods along with one of the Tactical squads (Flamer squad for GEQ or Plasma squad for MEQ) and begin engaging the enemy's front line, or flank if it's exposed. In the meantime, the Caestus brings a big load of Assault Terminators to engage whatever scraps are left or to pull the Dreadnoughts out of tar pits. The Devastators hang back and help to open up enemy transports and to keep enemy units out of the deployment zones. The whole list is designed to hit fast and hard, though it's admittedly quite fragile in that it relies on scatter rolls. What do you think?

  1. I like It...only thing I would change is Lysander and the Devs...I would take MotF and 2 rifleman dreads in their place...or you could play around with the points and take some other pattern of dreadnought

  2. That sounds like a fantastic idea. That would bring a lot more support firepower for the points. :)
